PORTRAIT OF WILLEM DAFOE. (760mm x 560mm)
Willem was the first large scale portrait using charcoal, graphite and ink. The portrait was broken down into 660 squares that were individually filled in to create the larger image. Each square was completed irrespective of its relevance in the larger picture which accomplished three things; provided a consistency in detail, made the large scale more manageable and prevent the exclusion of seemingly irregular shapes. This meticulous process was completed over a 6 month period and in excess of 100 hours.
The techniques explored in Will's conception were a platform to create further artworks and incorporate into creative pieces.
